We stayed in Turangi for one night to do white water rafting on the Tongariro river the next morning:
Wir haben eine Nacht in Turangi übernachtet, weil wir von dort aus am nächsten Morgen zum white water rafting auf dem Tongariro aufgebrochen sind:
After the rafting trip we passed lake Taupo and drove to Rotorua, where we stayed for the 2nd night. As the area around Rotorua is a thermal region with lots of natural sulphur springs the whole town stinks of rotten eggs which is a bit hard to get used to :)Von dort aus sind wir vorbei am Lake Taupo nach Rotorua gefahren, wo wir die zweite Nacht verbracht haben. Da es eine Thermal-Gegend ist mit vielen natürlichen Schwefelquellen, stinkt das ganze Gebiet nach faulen Eiern woran man sich nur schwer gewöhnen kann :)

Saturday morning we drove to Wai-o-tapu (20 mins south of Rotorua) to see the Thermal Wonderland. Wai-o-tapu (which means sacred waters) is New Zealand's most colourful and diverse volcanic area. We got there for the daily eruption of the Lady Knox Geyser around 10.15 in the morning. Though it does erupt naturally the staff of the park give it a little help for the daily demonstration (as the natrual circle is anything between 12 and 48 hours). They put a bit of ecological soap powder down the opening of the vent to help build up pressure and make it erupt.
Samstag morgen sind wir nach Wai-o-tapu (20 Minuten südlich von Rotorua) gefahren um das Thermal Wonderland zu sehen. Wai-o-tapu (was heilige Wasser bedeutet) ist Neuseelands farbenpächtigstes und abwechslungsreichstes Vulkangebiet. Wir sind morgens hingefahren, um den Lady Knox Geysir sprühen zu sehen. Zwar bricht er auch auf natürliche Weise aus aber für die öffentliche Vorführung wird etwas nachgeholfen (da der natürliche Zyklus irgendwo zwischen 12 und 48 Stunden liegt), indem einer der Angestellten etwas ökologische Seife in die Öffnung kippt um Druck aufzubauen und ihn zum speien zu bringen.

Overflowing water from the Champagne Pool (pictures follow) draws with it minerals that have originated from below the surface. As the waters cool and the minerals are exposed to our atmosphere they show themselves in a variety of locations and colours depending upon water levels and wind direction.
Erklärung aus dem Führer: Wasser das aus dem Champagner Pool (Bilder folgen) abfließt zieht Mineralien mit sich, die von unter der Oberfläche stammen. Wenn das Wasser abkühlt und die Mineralien unserer Atmosphäre ausgesetzt sind, zeigen sie sich in einer Vielfalt von Orten und Farben abhängig von Wasserlevel und Windrichtung.
Champagne Pool
This spring is the largest in the district, being 65 m in diameter and 62m deep. It's surface temperature is 74°C and bubbles are due to carbon dioxide. The pool was formed 700 years ago by a hydrothermal eruption.
Diese Quelle ist mit einem Durchmesser von 65m und einer Tiefe von 62m die Größte im Umkreis. Die Oberflächentemperatur beträgt 74°C und Blasen entstehen aufgrund von Kohlenstoffdioxid. Der Pool entstand vor 700 Jahren durch eine hydrothermale Eruption.
Devil's bath
The colour is the result of excess water from the Champagne Pool mixing with sulphur and ferrous salts. Changes in colour through green to yellow are associated with the amount of reflected light and cloud cover.
Des Teufels Bad Die Farbe ist das Ergebnis von überschüssigem Wasser des Champagner Pools, das sich mit Schwefel und eisenhaltigen Salzen vermischt. Farbänderungen von gelb bis grün hängt von Lichtspiegelungen und Wolken ab.
From Wai-o-tapu we drove to a place called Matamata because I wanted to do the Hobbiton Movie Set Tour. On the way we stopped to do the luge in Rotorua.
Von dort aus sind wir zu einem Ort namens Matamata gefahren, weil ich die Hobbiton Movie Set Tour machen wollte. Auf dem Weg sind wir Rennrodel :) gefahren.
And because this post will explode if it gets one more picture I will do another one now. :)
